It kills me to hear or see people who purchase dogs that end up with genetic problems that could have been solved simply by doing proper health testing, such as CERF or OFA Hips. Now there are many genetic issues that can not be tested for Heart (DCM), seizuring and Wobblers, but why do so many people feel the need to hide these facts versus keeping an open line of communication so that people can make the best decision for themselves.
There is another Dane Breeder in the States that has been known for decades as being the most honest breeder ever, and although she has endured flack from some, I admire her, for her strength and desire to make the best choices for the breed.
Here at MiHi we strive to breed the best that we can, but know that no creature is perfect!
This is why we test for Hips, Heart, Thyroid and Eyes, and we don't hide any illnesses!
Here is a list of our dogs and their illnesses:
Am Can Ch MiHi's A Starz' Born (Rocket X Tonka) at 9 years old diagnosed with a tumour, which was successfully removed. This was not considered by the specialists to be a genetic issue.
Chester (neutered male, never used in breeding program) (IROC X Tonka) - at 9.5 years old diagnosed with a splenic tumour, which was successfully removed. This was not considered by the specialists to be a genetic issue.
Luke (Quincy X Envy) - diagnosed with stress seizures at 2 years old, maintained on medicine with no further re-occurring seizures.
